Commission says over 15 Ukrainians involved in Georgian war
KIEV, November 11 (RIA Novosti) - A Ukrainian parliamentary commission investigating illegal weapon supplies to Georgia has established that over 15 Ukrainians were involved in Tbilisi's attack on South Ossetia, the group's head said on Tuesday.
"We have established that unfortunately more than 15 people took part in the conflict," Valeriy Konovalyuk said.
The parliamentary commission was set up after Russia accused Ukraine of supplying Georgia with military weapons and equipment prior to a brief military conflict between Moscow and Tbilisi.
Konovalyuk said the commission had obtained video recordings and the passport details of those involved in the conflict. But he also accused the country's ministries of obstructing the investigation.
"The Defense Ministry, the State Council on Security and Defense and other departments are practically preventing access to information as they are aware how our current investigation is extremely risky for some individuals," he said.
Konovalyuk earlier said that the commission had also established that in May and June Ukraine was supplying Georgia with arms.
Ukraine's State Council on Security and Defense immediately dismissed Konovalyuk's allegations, calling them "absurd."
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said last month that he considered alleged Ukrainian arms supplies to Georgia during the recent war over South Ossetia "a crime."
