UNESCO names 2009 "Year of Gogol"

April 1 will see the 200th anniversary of Russian writer Nikolai Gogol with a number of festivities slated to be held in Russia and beyond. Among other things, a cultural center named after Gogol is due to open in Moscow early in April. Russian filmmakers, in turn, have shot a documentary to tell about the iconic writer – something that will also feature Gogol’s most popular literary pieces, like Dead Souls, Auditor and Overcoat. The UNESCO announced 2009 a Year of Gogol.
